A while back, Microsoft issued a security warning alert about a phishing scam targeting players of the popular first-person shooter Modern Warfare 2. The hacker has since been caught. Turns out he was a 14-year-old schoolboy from Dublin, Ireland.
Instead of arresting or suing the hacker, however, Microsoft is attempting to enhance his skills. Paul Rellis from Microsoft states that the company is "working with the teenager to develop his talent" to "let him use his skills for legitimate purposes".
It seems this isn't the first time Microsoft is engaging hackers. The software giant has attempted to employ them in 2002 to secure the original Xbox. Also, rumors on the internet state that Sony might also be hiring hackers to re-secure their PlayStation Network.
The Microsoft alert was announced prior to the attack on Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) where hackers stole personal information from millions of PSN users.
